Collar Type Packing Machines

Quick answer: Collar type packing machines are vertical form-fill-seal machines that shape roll film around a forming collar into pillow or centre-seal pouches and fill them from above. Choose the doser to suit your product: cup volumetric for free-flowing granules, auger for powders, multi-head weigher for irregular pieces, and check the pouch size and speed range.

How to choose Collar Type Packing Machines

The forming machine is similar across this range; the filler on top is what you are really choosing. The Cup Volumetric Filler Packing Machines unit measures by volume in adjustable cups and suits free-flowing products with consistent density such as sugar, rice, salt, lentils and tea, at modest cost and good speed (30 to 100 pouches per minute listed). The Augar Filler Packing Machine For Powder doses fine and non-free-flowing powders such as flour, spices, milk powder, coffee and premixes, where cups would bridge or give poor accuracy. The Multi Head Weigher Vertical Packing Machines combine weights from several buckets to hit a target accurately for irregular, valuable or fragile products such as snacks, nuts, dried fruit and frozen items.

Then match film width and forming collar to your pouch size. Each pouch width needs its own collar; length is adjustable. Fill ranges up to 2 kg (weigher) or 5 kg (cup and auger) are quoted, but small-weight accuracy is the harder test, so specify your smallest pack.

Specifications and standards

Compare pouches per minute at your target weight, fill range and accuracy, maximum film width (700 mm is listed on the cup and auger models), pouch length and width range, sealing type, power load (4 to 5 kW three-phase listed) and air consumption. For multi-head weighers, compare head count and hopper volume. Ask which collar sizes are included as standard.

Ask for confirmation of stainless steel on product-contact parts, interlocked guarding, and the temperature controllers on the sealing jaws. Request a test run on your own product and film recording weight variation over a sample of packs. For legal-for-trade packs, check your national rules on average quantity and tolerable negative error, and ask whether a check weigher is advisable to meet them.

Who buys this range

Typical buyers are rice, sugar, pulse and salt packers, flour and spice mills, tea and coffee companies, snack and namkeen producers, agrochemical and fertiliser packers using the auger model for powders, and co-operatives packing commodities for retail. Many move to a collar type machine from manual weighing and heat sealing when volumes grow.

Buyers usually order one machine per product family and add elevators, check weighers and date coders around it.

Volumetric cup versus auger versus weigher

Cup fillers are the least expensive and fastest for uniform granules, but accuracy falls when bulk density varies between batches. Auger fillers control powders well and can handle dusty or sticky materials, though very coarse or fragile pieces are damaged by the screw. Multi-head weighers give the best accuracy on irregular products and reduce giveaway, but cost more and need more height and maintenance. Your product's flow and value per kilogram usually make the choice clear.

Feeding the filler

A vertical packing machine needs a steady supply of product to its hopper at the top, often two to four metres above the floor. Plan a bucket elevator, screw conveyor or vacuum loader for this, and size it to keep the hopper level constant, since varying hopper level affects dosing accuracy on cup and auger fillers. Check your ceiling height before choosing a multi-head weigher configuration, which is the tallest.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pack 100 g and 1 kg on the same machine?

Often yes, but the pouch width will differ, so you will need a second forming collar, and on a cup filler the cup volume must be reset or changed. Accuracy at the small weight should be checked separately. List all pack sizes so we can confirm the collars and doser range.

Which filler is best for spices?

Ground spices are fine, often dusty powders, so an auger filler is the usual choice. Whole spices that flow freely can be packed with a cup filler or weigher. Tell us whether your product is ground or whole and its bulk density.

What film can I use?

Collar type machines run heat-sealable laminates and some single films. The film must match the sealing temperature and jaw type of the machine. Send us your film structure or a sample reel during the trial to confirm sealing quality.

Can the machine make gusseted or block bottom bags?

The standard configuration produces centre-seal pillow pouches. Gusseted bags need additional gusset forming parts, and block bottom bags need a different machine type. Specify the bag style you want at the quotation stage.
