Agro Threshing Machine covers threshers that separate grain from the straw and husk after harvest: multi-crop threshers, paddy and wheat threshers, maize threshers and shellers, and pulse and oilseed threshers, in tractor-driven, engine-mounted and electric forms. On fragmented smallholdings, soft ground and crops that a combine cannot handle economically, the thresher is the machine that actually gets the grain in.

Performance is a balance between grain recovery and grain damage, controlled by cylinder speed and concave clearance, and the correct setting changes with crop and moisture. A thresher that cannot be adjusted is a thresher set wrongly for most of what it will see. Cleaning capability is the other differentiator, since a thresher that delivers grain with chaff and short straw in it leaves a winnowing job that the operator was trying to avoid.

Threshers are among the highest-volume items in tendered smallholder mechanisation. Agriculture ministries and extension services, mechanisation and subsidy schemes, custom hiring centre programmes, co-operatives and farmer producer organisations, rural development agencies, and smallholder mechanisation and food security projects financed by development banks and agricultural funds all procure them through bidding. Quantity pricing is quoted against the specification and supported by throughput, recovery and damage figures, power requirements, origin and warranty declarations, priced spares lists and inspection arrangements.
