Heat pump drying for meat treats

Dried meat strips and jerky-style treats lose colour and become brittle when dried too hot. A heat pump dryer recycles heat from the exhaust air and dries at moderate, controlled temperatures, which helps retain colour and texture and generally uses less energy than direct electric or fuel heaters. Drying time depends on strip thickness and fat content, so cut strips uniformly and run trials to set time and temperature for each product.

Using by-products safely
