The result is denser and less palatable than extruded kibble but considerably cheaper to produce, both in capital cost and in energy per tonne. That suits economy products, kennel feeding and bulk supply where cost per kilo governs the sale rather than shelf appeal. Pellet diameter is changed by fitting a different die.
