At 170 HP the motor grader moves from maintenance into formation work: cutting subgrade, trimming base course to tolerance and forming road profile on new construction rather than restoring an existing one. Formation work is measured against a tolerance, so the questions at order are about accuracy and reach as much as power. Moldboard length, circle drive, articulation and whether the machine carries grade control determine whether it can hold the tolerance a contract specifies over a long pass. Manufacture is to the buyer's own schedule, and a tender annexure is quoted and built against in full.
