An 8 tonne truck crane is a service and maintenance machine rather than a construction lifting machine. Mounted on a road-going chassis, it drives to the job under its own power and lifts plant, pipe sections, transformers and signage without a separate transport arrangement. Boom length and outrigger spread decide what it can actually lift at radius, which is where most specifications go wrong: a rated capacity is a figure at minimum radius, not at working reach. The crane is configured against the lifts it will actually make.
