A double drum static roller compacts by weight alone, with no vibration. That is specified deliberately rather than as a limitation: on bridge decks, over buried services, near existing structures and on thin surface layers, vibration causes damage or displaces the material being compacted. Static rollers are also used for final finishing passes where a vibrating drum would leave marks. Ballast arrangement and drum width are set at order.
