At 10 tonnes the tandem roller is specified for heavy asphalt duty: motorway surfacing, airfield pavements and thick binder layers where static weight does much of the compaction and vibration finishes it. Machines at this size are usually bought against a paving train rather than alone, so drum width and travel speed have to match the paver's output.
